February is Children's Dental Health Month. Children's Dental Health Month is a national annual observance in which dentists and dental professionals focus on focusing efforts to improve the oral health of all children. Oklahoma Dental Association members participate in several activities for Children's Dental Health Month. "Give Kids a Smile!" day is held during Children's Dental Health Month and is an opportunity for low-income children to receive free dental care. In addition to providing free dental care, ODA member dentists also participate in "Give Kids a Smile!" day by going to schools and community groups and providing brushing instructions and other oral health talks to children. Another exciting event during Children's Dental Health Month is the ODA-sponsored poster contents. All 4th grade students are legible to participate in a dental health poster contest. Winning posters are selected from each ODA district, and a state winner is selected from the district winners. The state winner of the poster contest receives a cash prize along with free ice cream from Children's Dental Health Month sponsor Braums. To view the 2007 State Poster Contest Winners, Click Here.
