This is an informative and compelling course, which deals with medical and dental issues related to women from the time of puberty through their postmenopausal years. For the premenopausal women this course will cover puberty, menses, pregnancy, lactation and oral contraceptives. In addition, issues particularly affecting younger women, including eating disorders and domestic violence will be presented. Issues relating to the mature female patient going through perimenopause and menopause will be discussed. The latest information on cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, hormone replacement therapy as well as alternative treatments will be presented. Oral conditions and medical and dental treatment considerations during these life cycle changes will be presented. Bisphosphonate induced osteonecrosis of the jawbone will be presented. - Identify oral manifestations and special medical and dental considerations when treating the female patient;
- Recognize fluctuations in sex hormones occurring in puberty, menses, pregnancy and the use of oral contraceptives;
- Point out the effects of eating disorders (i.e., bulimia) on the oral cavity;
- Detect oral conditions prevalent in victims of domestic violence;
