Complementary and Alternative Medicine: Harmful or Helpful?

Dental health professionals must be familiar with current trends in complementary and alternative medicine, and must be knowledgeable regarding the benefits and risks associated with these products and treatments. Many of our patients are relying on these forms of medicine in addition to traditional forms of medicine which makes it important for us to be familiar with the existing scientific evidence on safety and efficacy. At the conclusion of the course, participants will:

• differentiate between complementary and alternative medicine;
• identify the various complementary and alternative medicine treatments and products;
• identify the benefits and risks of these treatments and products; and
• learn how to screen, educate and advise dental patients on their use.
