Speaker Bio:
Dedicated to helping others live the Marine Corps maxim, “Know yourself and seek self-improvement,” Kate is a retired military officer with broad experience as public speaker, facilitator, trainer, and coach. During a very successful career in the Marines, Kate was chosen to lead the all-women 4th Recruit Training Battalion where she discovered systemic gender bias negatively impacted the performance of her female recruits and Marines.
After a tumultuous experience leading change with some spectacular results and a very public firing, Kate left the military and embarked on a journey of self-reflection. Her thirst to improve her leadership and better serve others led her back to school, where she attained certifications from Georgetown University in organizational consulting and change leadership and Diversity and Inclusion program management. She is certified through the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and Fielding Graduate University as an evidence-based leadership coach and holds a Brain Based Coaching certification through the NeuroLeadership Institute. She is currently working towards a certification in Conflict Management and Mediation with Colorado State University.
Kate’s exploration of her own emotional intelligence helped her understand that true leadership requires vulnerability, courage, and an appreciation for the perspectives of others. Believing you can always teach an old dog new tricks, she uses her own experiences as powerful tools to help others be more introspective, accountable and able to artfully navigate change.
A nature and animal fanatic, she lives in Southern Maryland with her husband, four chickens, and three cats.
